Taylor Music Festival Faculty and Performer: Mary Scott Taylor

Mary Scott Taylor is a professional violinist and Irish fiddler who is also a certified Suzuki violin instructor and has extensive teaching experience with string players young and old. String ensembles under her direction have performed throughout the country at Suzuki Institutes and Festivals in Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Currently Ms. Taylor serves as the Founding Director of Na Fidleiri, a 20 to 25 member ensemble that includes predominantly fiddles, but also penny whistle, guitar and bodhran. The group is a performing ensemble and has performed extensively throughout the Southeast. The group performed at the Swannanoa Gathering in 2004, one of the most prestigious Folk Institutes in the United States. The group has been featured in South Carolina Magazine and well as The Charleston Magazine. The group produced a CD in 2002 titled, “From the New Country”, which has sold over 1,000 copies. Na Fidleiri, which will be in residence during the Taylor Music Festival has performed at the Augusta Irish Festival and the Florence International Festival and the Savannah Irish Festival.
As a performer, Ms. Taylor is a member of the Hungry Monks, a Celtic Folk Ensemble, with recordings on Hungry Monk Recordings, and a part time member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with
orchestras in Austria and Italy, with The American Institute of Musical Studies and orchestras in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina. Taylor is an experienced chamber musician and has appeared
in concert in both the classical and Irish music repertoires. Taylor has a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from Sam Houston State University where she studied with David Halen and a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance and Music Education from Lamar University in Texas where she studied with David Oistrach.
